DIVING SAFETY

In 1943 the first self contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) was co-invented by Jacques Cousteau and Emile Gagnan in France.

Thus, for the first time, man was able to breath compressed air underwater and be free to swim like a fish without the pull of gravity.

However, like any new invention there were safety limitations which were not fully understood at the time. Nowadays with the advance in underwater medicine, diving technology, and equipment there are strict rules to enhance scuba diving safety.
