護鯊大行動 / Swim for the shark 2010

鯊魚每年都因為牠們的鯊魚鰭而被大量殺害，面臨絕種的危機。香港為魚翅貿易的中心，本會作為香港潛水業界的核心不應再坐視不理，並應尋求更加腳踏實地的做法來解決這個問題。香港潛水總會舉辦「第二屆護鯊大行動」，將在今年8月1日在香港科技大學對開碼頭舉行開幕儀式，正式活動定於10月3日舉行。人們會將自己打扮成鯊魚聚集在香港的海岸，協助提高對鯊魚保育的關注。他們將在香港科技大學校園周圍的海域游泳，預期屆時將有一大群的鯊魚鰭在水面上出現！本會希望透過舉辦這項活動，令更多的公眾和社會關注鯊魚保育。我們將在此次活動中籌集善款，並在扣除所有行政成本後，將部分善款捐贈給世界自然基金會，以利用這筆善款進一步促進鯊魚的保育。歡迎有興趣人士組隊參加, 詳情請參閱報名表格。

This year on the 3rd of October people dressed up as sharks will gather on the Coast of Hong Kong to help raise awareness for the conservation of sharks and the impact of shark fin trading in Asia. A kick off ceremony will be held on 1st of August at the HKUST campus, hopefully that’s a lot of shark circling the waters !

It’s not a race. Swim for the Sharks is all about raising much needed funds and awareness for the millions of sharks that are killed and eaten every year. People can swim the course themselves or get a team together for a relay. The swim is an open ocean swim with the majority of time spent around the off shores of HKUST. Each swimmer must be wearing a shark fin on their back. The shark fin will be provided by the event organiser HKUA.

The swim is open to anyone with the ability to swim and the heart to help our friends of the sea. There are minimum fundraising benchmarks for single or as corporate participants to ensure the charity WWF–Hong Kong is well supported. Your support is greatly appreciated. Remember it’s not just a race. It’s a fund-raising event that will galvanizes the people and corporates around the world. Let’s help the millions of sharks that are killed every year before it’s too late.
